The case retains its compact, pocketable dimensions that slip easily into any pocket. The earbuds themselves look nearly identical to the first generation at first glance, but careful examination reveals refined touch surfaces on the stems, improved venting, and the updated H2 chip that powers the enhanced capabilities. Build quality is excellent, with the glossy white finish that's become iconic for Apple audio products.

The H2 chip represents a significant advancement over the H1, enabling Active Noise Cancellation that Apple claims is twice as effective as the first generation - a claim our testing largely verified. The ANC algorithm adapts 48,000 times per second, responding to your environment dynamically and canceling a remarkable amount of ambient noise for such compact earbuds. Adaptive Transparency is a standout feature, using on-device processing to reduce harsh environmental sounds like construction noise or sirens while still allowing conversation and awareness. Personalized Spatial Audio uses the TrueDepth camera to map your ear geometry, creating a custom spatial audio profile that makes surround content genuinely immersive. Touch controls on the stems allow volume adjustment with swipes - a feature that was missing from the first generation and is now indispensable. Conversation Awareness detects when you're speaking and automatically lowers media volume while enhancing voices, making brief interactions seamless without removing the earbuds.

Our ANC testing confirmed the H2 chip's improvements, with noise cancellation matching or exceeding competing earbuds like the Sony WF-1000XM5 at most frequencies, despite the AirPods Pro's smaller drivers and form factor.
