iPhone 16 Pro Review: Apple Intelligence Changes Everything

Apple's iPhone 16 Pro packaging continues the company's environmental commitment with fully recycled materials and minimal waste. Inside, you'll find the iPhone 16 Pro, a USB-C braided cable, and documentation - nothing else, as has become standard. Immediately noticeable is the larger display - Apple has increased the screen from 6.1" to 6.3" by reducing the bezels to an industry-leading thinness. This creates more viewing area without making the device larger than the iPhone 15 Pro. Our Desert Titanium unit showcases Apple's refined finish, with the titanium frame feeling premium and lightweight. The new Camera Control button on the lower right side is the most significant physical interface addition since Face ID, providing a touch-sensitive surface for camera adjustments. The action button returns, maintaining the customization options introduced last year. Overall, this feels like a refinement of an already excellent design rather than a revolution.

Apple Intelligence represents Apple's entry into on-device AI, and while features are rolling out gradually, the foundation is impressive. Writing Tools appear system-wide, allowing text rewriting, summarization, and tone adjustment in any application. Siri understands context better than ever, maintaining conversation threads and accessing on-screen content for relevant responses. The new Photos app uses AI to create automatic memories, while image generation through Image Playground creates personalized illustrations. The Camera Control button is brilliantly implemented - a light press activates the camera, sliding adjusts zoom or other settings, and a firm press captures. It takes about an hour to internalize the gestures, after which it feels like the obvious way to control a phone camera. The 5x telephoto camera comes to the smaller Pro for the first time, eliminating one of the few remaining reasons to choose the larger Pro Max. Video capabilities expand to 4K120fps recording, enabling professional slow-motion capture previously requiring dedicated equipment.

Performance testing confirmed the A18 Pro maintains Apple's silicon leadership, with benchmark scores exceeding even the already-excellent A17 Pro. More importantly, thermal management has improved significantly - the iPhone 16 Pro runs cooler during sustained loads, addressing one of the few complaints about its predecessor.
